How far in advance should I book my session?
We recommend booking at least two weeks in advance. This allows time to schedule a consultation and to prepare for the shoot.
Do I need a consultation?
We strongly encourage a brief consultation prior to your shoot. We take pride in personalized sessions, and the consultation helps us get to know each other. It ensures that we’re on the same page and that all of your needs are met.
What should I wear?
This is the most common question people ask when booking a photo shoot.
Above all else, you should be comfortable. If you force yourself into an outfit that feels uncomfortable and awkward, it will show in the pictures, so we always encourage something comfortable.
For a little more direction, here are some suggestions/things to consider:
- Coordinate instead of match. Most families don’t wear matching outfits on a day-to-day basis (unless that’s your thing!). For a more natural looking photo, try to pick three colors that complement each other and mix them up as much as possible in what you’ll be wearing.
- Pastels or dark tones. Light, powdery tones can give photos a fresh look. Darker tones tend to slenderize and keep focus on your face.
- Avoid bright colors and busy patterns. Bright, bold colors and busy patterns can be distracting and pull the focus off of you and your family.
- Don’t over accessorize. Similar to patterns, a lot of accessories can be distracting. Limit the jewelry to subtle pieces. The same should be considered with make-up — try to keep it simple and subtle for a more natural look.
If you’re still unsure about your outfit, feel free to contact us. You’re more than welcome to bounce ideas off of us or even send a few pictures of your outfit ideas and we’ll tell you what we think.
Who chooses the location?
After your consultation, we provide a short list of recommended locations. However, we love when clients come to us with their own ideas too, so don’t be shy!
Can we do a mixture of candid and posed photos?
Certainly. This is your session and we want to give you the types of photos you want. We make a point to discuss this during your consultation prior to the shoot.
Does my house have to be in pristine condition for an in-home Documentary Session?
Absolutely not! A house should look like people live there. It adds character to the photos and makes the session feel more authentic.
Can you tell me more about the Photo Experience package?
Our Photo Experience package is a unique offering from Heinkel Photography. It’s our fun twist on a traditional shoot.
The Photo Experience package gives you an opportunity to incorporate a special activity and/or location into the shoot. Rather than simply posing for the camera, we build the activity and location into the shots as well. We love helping families brainstorm different concepts, so if you’re even a little bit curious, let us know and we’d be happy to share a few ideas to see if it’s for you!
When will I receive my photos?
Within two weeks of your session, you’ll receive a link to a private gallery. From there, you’ll be able to select your favorites and download your high-resolution files.
Can I order prints?
At this time, we do not sell printed products. You may print your high-resolution digital files anywhere you like. We’re happy to guide you through that process so that you get the most out of your shoot.
What if I need to reschedule?
If you need to reschedule, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice.
How long will I have access to my photos online?
We maintain all private galleries on our website for one year from the session date. You can share the gallery with anyone and download your files as many times as needed.
